Bozeman Police Sting Operation Arrests 18 in Prostitution and Human Trafficking Case

Bozeman, MT  2023-07-20

The Bozeman Police Department conducted a three-day sting operation from July 20 to July 22, 2023, which resulted in the arrest of 18 people for prostitution-related charges at the SpringHill Suites off Baxter Lane. Detective Captain Dana McNeil emphasized the surprising scope of the issue, highlighting that the operation was part of a broader effort to understand and combat human trafficking in the area. The Montana state legislature's recent increase in penalties for prostitution to a felony level served as a motivator for the investigation. Among those arrested were Brian Heck, a Belgrade School Trustee who resigned, and Mark Naharniak, a former Bozeman High assistant football coach who was suspended. The men face potential sentences of 0-5 years in prison if convicted.
