Major Human Trafficking Bust: 22 Arrested in Italy and Bulgaria for Forcing Women into Prostitution

Various, Italy and Bulgaria  2024-02-01

In a coordinated operation supported by Eurojust, authorities in Italy and Bulgaria arrested 22 alleged members of an organized crime group (OCG) involved in forcing female victims into prostitution. The OCG, primarily Bulgarian, used violent methods to control victims, who were lured with promises of employment and then coerced into prostitution. The investigation, which began in 2021, led to the rescue of many victims and the arrest of suspects across both countries. Eurojust facilitated cooperation and legal processes to support the operation.
